Decs 125 15 Instruction Manual

The DECS15 digital voltage regulator is now obsolete. Fortunately the DECS200 was designed to supersede all the functions of the DECS15 to allow for easy upgrade to the new digital voltage regulator (please note that this post is valid for the following Basler voltage regulators: DECS125-15, DECS63-15 & DECS32-15)

Preface DECS-150 Warning! READ THIS MANUAL. Read this manual before installing, operating, or maintaining the DECS-150. Note all warnings, cautions, and notes in this manual as well as on the product. Keep this manual with the product for reference. Only qualified personnel should install, operate, or service this system.

  1. Manual excitation control, remote voltage adjust capability, accessory input, stability network, overexcitation, overvoltage, underfrequency and softstart. The device shall be Basler Electric Digital Excitation Control System, the DECS 32-15, DECS 63-15, or DECS 125-15. ACCESSORIES DECS is designed to incorporate VAR/Power Factor regu.
  2. DECS -150 Digital Excitation Control low-cost, and System iii The DECS-150 Digital Excitation Control System is a high powered, environmentally rugged solution for controlling the output of rotary excited synchronous generators. The DECS-150 is perfect for machines that are paralleled to other generators and/or the utility system.
  3. DECS-150 Instruction Manual, Rev F, English (8MB) Handling, Installing & Maintaining Excitation Control Equipment (1.1MB) DECS-150 Instruction Manual, Rev F, Chinese (7.9MB).
  4. This 2010 edition incorporates new and modified instructions. However, the print publication of the Manual necessarily presents a snap-shot of an ongoing research and drafting process. Accordingly, even the most recently dated edition of the Manual does not guarantee that one is using instructions that are up to date.

The DECS200 is not an exact like for like replacement but does not require a lot of engineering as it was developed with the aim of replacing the DECS15. A complete step by step upgrade manual is available on request. Here is an extract “[download id=”23″]”

For complete DECS125-15 excitation chassis supplied from Basler, we have like for like solutions available based on the DECS200. Look for the Basler Electric Part Number on the excitation system drawings. The number would be somewhere on the bottom right corner of the page. If you find the following number 6-1103-91-120 or similar (Sometimes called MP120), Contact us and request the Basler Electric “MP340″. This is the easiest solution as it is completely like for like and requires less than an hour to swap over.

If the DECS15 AVR was supplied as a standalone AVR, the DECS200 can be used with the following considerations:

Mechanical

Even though they are similar in size, the dimensions of both units are not strictly identical. The DECS125 includes a separate Power module which is now included in the DECS200 thus making the power module obsolete. In most cases, removing the DECS125 and the Power module frees enough space to install the DECS200.

  • DECS15: 229 x 149 x 328mm (HxLxD)
  • DECS15 Power Module: 105 x 122 x 197mm (HxLxD)
  • DECS200: 305 x 205 x 186mm (HxLxD), (Including builtin power module)

Position of the terminal blocks:

  • Are located at the back of the DECS125-15
  • Are located on the left side of the DECS-200

It is important to consider the length of wires when choosing the location of the DECS200

Terminal names & Numbers

Some terminals on the DECS200 have different names. A table showing the pin names transfer is included in the upgrade manual ([download id=”23″]).

Differences

Decs 125 15 Instruction Manual Instructions

  • Power input: DECS200 doesn’t require the external power module. It might require an Inrush Current Reduction Module in some power supply configurations. Please refer to our upgrade manual for full details ([download id=”23″])
  • Cross current compensation: The DECS200 have a dedicated cross current compensation input. For that reason, if cross current compensation is used with the DECS125-15 there are 2 options to re-wire the DECS200:
    • Using the dedicated input which requires a dedicated sensing CT
    • Using only the sensing CT of the DECS200 for the cross current compensation loop but the power measures in the DECS200 will then be wrong and the under excitation limiter will have to be disabled.

DECS200 Specific requirements

  • The DECS200 needs to be powered by an auxiliary power supply. The accepted range is 16 to 60Vdc or 90 to 150Vdc or 85 to 132Vac. The control power allows the record of data logging, Oscillography records, sequence of event recording and Date & Time which are new features available in the DECS200 which greatly enhance the troubleshooting process.
  • As the DECS200 is permanently powered, It requires START/STOP Control inputs. This will allow for soft start functions to operate. Even though it is not the preferred solution, it is possible to by pass this requirement in some cases.

Optional new features

Decs 125 15 Instruction Manual Transfer Switch

Upgrading to a DECS200 could be the opportunity to include a few new features available in all DECS-200s, such as:

  • Pre-position to load a pre-defined setpoint by the closure of a dry contact (convenient use upon synchronisation to preset a PF or VAR level, or even when going standalone to automatically restore the rated voltage
  • Automatic / Manual mode control available by the closure of 2 dry contacts.
  • Communication port RS485 for SCADA integration
  • Exciter Diode Protection
  • Internal and external tracking (Bumpless transfer between AVRs and between regulation channels) see our FAQ
  • Stator current limiter, Online & Offline Over excitation limiter, Under excitation Limiter based on the capability curve, see our FAQ
